About 0Déchets

0Déchets is a free civic app that lets people in Mauritania report illegal dumps, overflowing bins and missed waste collections by taking a photo. This policy covers the 0Déchets website (www.0dechets.com) and the 0Déchets mobile app for iOS and Android.

There are no user accounts. You do not need to give us your name, email address or phone number to use the app.

What we collect

• Photos you take to report a problem. A smaller thumbnail is created from each photo.
• Location. When you submit a report, the app reads your precise location once to place the report on the map. It is used only while the app is open, never in the background, and we do not track your movements.
• Report details: the category you choose, an optional description, and a neighborhood name looked up from the coordinates.
• A random device identifier. So that one device cannot vote several times and so the leaderboard can count your reports, the app creates an anonymous identifier for your device (on the website, a browser identifier generated with FingerprintJS). It is not linked to your name or any account and is never shown publicly.
• An optional display name, up to 30 characters, if you choose to appear on the leaderboard.
• On the website only: anonymous, aggregated usage statistics through Vercel Analytics. The mobile app has no advertising and no third-party analytics.

How we use it

We use this information only to run the app: to show reports on the public map, to let people confirm that a problem has been cleaned up, to prevent duplicate votes and abuse, to build the leaderboard, and to keep the service secure. We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

What is public

Reports are public by design. For each report, anyone can see the photo, the location on the map, the category, the description, the neighborhood, its status and the number of confirmations. Your device identifier and any other technical data are not published.

Please do not photograph people, faces, vehicle plates or private property. Photograph the waste itself.

Services that process data for us

• Supabase: stores reports, photos and votes, and delivers live updates.
• Mapbox: converts coordinates into a neighborhood name and provides the map on the website.
• Apple Maps: displays the map in the iOS app, subject to Apple’s privacy policy.
• Vercel: hosts the website and provides its anonymous analytics.

Device permissions

You can withdraw any permission at any time in your device settings.

• Camera: to photograph the waste you are reporting.
• Location (while using the app): to attach the position of the waste to your report and to center the map on you.
• Photo library (add only): to save a shareable image of your report if you ask for it. The app cannot read your photos.

Content and moderation

Reports must show real waste problems. Content that is abusive, offensive, misleading, or that shows identifiable people or private information is not allowed and will be removed.

To report content that should be removed, or to ask us to delete your own report, write to mhamed.bbh01@gmail.com with a link to the report or the neighborhood and date. We review these requests promptly and remove content that breaks these rules. We may also remove reports on our own initiative and block devices that abuse the service.

Retention and deletion

Reports and their photos stay on the map until they are removed. You can ask us to delete a report you submitted, or your display name, at any time by writing to the address below. Deleted photos are removed from our storage.

Children

0Déchets is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be announced in the app or on the website.
